Independent Publishing – Artist Talk with Mitko Mitkov

On May 28 at 5:00 PM, an artist talk with Mitko Mitkov will take place at the Austrian Library in Ruse, moderated by Ina Valentinova.

Mitko Mitkov was born in 1989 in Ruse and currently lives and works in Hamburg, Germany. His practice moves between printed matter, sound, and the art object, exploring how ideas, images, and social interactions can be translated across different forms. His work includes artist books, self-publishing projects, sound compositions, and experimental music releases.

In the early 2000s, returning to Ruse during holidays from his art studies abroad, Mitkov brought with him independent art publications, music, and ideas that were rarely encountered in the local context at the time. Some of these projects now exist as an archive within the platform One%ofOne, while his musical practice continues through Dialog mit der Jugend and Bad Boy Jesus Tape Club.

The talk will focus on independent publishing, working across different media, artist books, experimental sound, and the ways in which independent practices sustain and energize artistic scenes.

The event is suitable both for audiences interested in contemporary art, sound, and self-publishing, and for those seeking an encounter with alternative modes of artistic thinking and independent cultural practices.
