The main goal of the International Biennale “The Art of Miniature” is to popularize and encourage the creation of miniature works of visual arts and photography. The first edition took place in 2007, based on the idea of the artist Volodya Kenarev. Since 2015, the Biennale has been organized by the Ruse Art Gallery with the help of the Municipality of Ruse, which provides the prize fund. Co-organizers are the Union of Bulgarian Artists and Society of Artists – Ruse.
Awards of the 10th International Biennial “The Art of Miniature” – Ruse 2025
The 10th edition of the International Biennial “The Art of Miniature” – Ruse opened last night at the Ruse Art Gallery. The event is organized by the Municipality of Ruse, the Ministry of Culture, and the Union of Bulgarian Artists.
The award ceremony was held in the presence of artists from Bulgaria and Romania, as well as numerous admirers and art enthusiasts.
The Grand Prize of the Biennial was awarded to Éric Marais (France) for the work “I Remember”.
The nominated and awarded artists in the five categories are:
Painting – Nominations: Ivan Velchev, Atanas Atanasov, Dimitar Bratanov, Trayana Panayotova, Manol Panchovski, Maryon Goodwin (South Africa).
Painting Award: Martina Karaivanova.
Graphics – Nominations: Hassan Ali Aldzabari, Joanna Paljocha (Poland), Maria Hееd (Sweden), Pedro Peralta (Uruguay), Janne Laine (Finland).
Graphics Award: Svetoslav Ninov.
Drawing – Nominations: Martin Tashev, Irina Vachkova, Denitsa Todorova, Rumen Deshev, Ireneusz Kopacz and Kamil Klonowski (Poland).
Drawing Award: Varban Hristov (Bulgaria/France).
Sculpture – Nominations: Galina Staneva and Nikoleta Ivanova-Stoimirova.
Sculpture Award: Ivan Totev.
Photography/New Media – Nominations: Rayna Vlaskovska, Lyubomir Vasilev – LAVA, Boryana Yotova, Galina Dokova, Maria Landova, Penka Ilieva – Choria, Branka Lalic (Serbia), Éric Marais (France).
Photography/New Media Award: Gabriela Kravcova (Slovakia).
The Union of Bulgarian Artists (UBA) Award went to Kosta Donchev.
The Ruse Art Gallery Award was given to Penka Ilieva – Choria.
Additional sponsor awards were also presented:
Valeri Falka and Mariana Dimitrova from the “Knowledge Center” – Ruse, part of “Econt Express”, named Ivanka Kolchakova as their favorite.
Kuncho Kunchev, manager of “Obstinski Pazari”. – Ruse, honored graphic artist Vasil Angelov.
“Medica” – Ruse, represented by Financial Director Gyulshen Muradova, presented awards to Keiko Mano (Japan) and Cheresha Koleva.
“Modernista Art” selected Petra Dimitrova and Nedyalka Nedeva.
Neicho Savchev from “Savchevi” Gallery – Oryahovo, gifted participation in a plein air session to Nikolina Encheva and Zhanet Levordashka.
At the end of the evening, after audience voting during the event, the Audience Award was won by Beatris Balevska.
The team of the gallery extends heartfelt thanks to all participants, friends, and supporters who, with love, inspiration, and dedication, turned the Miniature Biennial into a true celebration of art, and the exhibition – into a vibrant space of shared ideas, emotions, and creativity.
The exhibition will remain open until the end of the year.

The selection of the works for the exhibition of X International Biennial „The Art of Miniature “- Ruse, 2025 was held on September 26th . For participation in the competition were sent 832 works of 327 artists from 28 countries – Bulgaria, Austria, Australia, Argentina, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Great Britain, Germany, Israel, India, Italy, Canada, Mexico, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Serbia, Turkey, Uruguay, Finland, France, Croatia, Sweden, South Africa, Japan.
The works were elected by a jury consisting of the following members:
– Stella Lie, visual artist from Romania and chairman of the jury
– Elena Panayotova, artist and representative of the Union of Bulgarian Artists
– Nedko Nedkov, artist
– Eslitza Popova, director of the Art Gallery in Ruse
– Miglena Voynova, head of the Culture, Spiritual Development, and Art Department at the Municipality of Ruse A total of 294 artists submitted 645 works for the exhibition.
The winners in each of the categories – painting, graphics, drawing, sculpture and photography/new media – were selected by the jury, along with the winner of the Grand Prize of the Ruse Municipality. The names of the artists who have been awarded the prizes, as well as the additional awards from the organizations and sponsors, will be announced and presented on 10 October at 6:00 p.m. This will take place during the official opening ceremony.
