“Kuzov’s Closet” – an exhibition of personal choices and preserved memory

Opening: June 10, 2025, 6:00 PM

The exhibition “Kuzov’s Closet” is an unusual and personal look at contemporary Bulgarian art, collected and presented by Rumen Kuzov – a long-time researcher, public figure and connoisseur of visual culture.

The exhibition shows a selection of contemporary works, collected over decades, stored away from public view – at home, in private space, in that “closet”, where the most meaningful and unpretentious traces of cultural life often turn out to be. These are works that speak of closeness, interest and attention to the artistic process, and not simply to the final result.

“Kuzov’s Closet” is not an exhibition of one style or one generation. It reflects a variety of artistic approaches – from classical figurativeness to experimental searches, from painting and graphics to objects with a conceptual charge. What unites them is the collector’s perspective – personal, emotional and inspired by respect for the authors and their creative choices.

This exhibition is also an invitation to rethink the role of the private collector, not as an owner, but as a custodian of cultural memory. There is no ostentatious retrospective or market value in it – there is a gesture of sharing.
