It is debatable which art form is the most ancient, but acting is certainly one of the closest to human nature—where everyday life becomes a stage and life becomes a story. Prompted by such reflections, the editors of the Kinematograf platform have compiled a new selection of short films under the general title “An Actress’s Confession.”
The program travels around the country and reaches many cities such as Sofia, Veliko Tarnovo, Dobrich, Varna, Burgas, and others, and on December 11 at 6 p.m., it will also visit Ruse – in the hall of the Art Gallery. Admission is free.
The selection explores the thorny and often controversial path of the acting profession, the transformation of relationships between women and men in the world of cinema, and questions about moral boundaries in the entertainment industry. These are films that refuse to give ready-made answers but boldly ask questions about values, ambition, compromises, and human identity. Because the world is a big film set, and we are its actors.
Highlights of the program:
“Sylvia Wants to Play” – documentary film, dir. Vanya Boycheva
The story of a young actress in love with Rome, theater, and cinema. Between the noisy film festivals, the ancient streets, and the intimate space of her lonely apartment, a delicate connection unfolds—like a spider’s web—between dream and reality.
“Comma” – feature film, dir. Ivet Ivanova
Based on the short story of the same name by Zachary Karabashliev. A young playwright returns from California and witnesses his play being transformed during rehearsals – to the point where the author’s original concept is almost completely erased.
“Lonely Applause” – animated film, dir. Karina Krumova
A story about recognition and ego – a young artist receives the highest possible grade from her teachers, but over time, fame changes not only her self-esteem, but also her view of the world.
The program will also include three short films from the US and Canada.
