SCULPTURES WITH FUNCTION – KONSTANTIN ACHKOV
26 November – 31 December 2026
Opening: 26 November 2026, 6:00 PM
The world around us knows no absolute symmetry. In nature, as in human existence, true character is born within the deviation, within asymmetry — the very point where design yields to pure sculpture.
This exhibition is a spatial collision and synchronization of antagonists. Inspired by the polyphony and the brilliant counterpoint of J.S. Bach, the “Console-asymmetric” series stands on the threshold between emotional gesture and engineering stasis. On one hand, the space is seized by tectonic forces — fire-charred black objects: architectural Arches “ARCH” and biomorphic Insects from the foldable “Cut” series, caught in a chaotic yellow energy thread and bound to the white walls. On the other hand, elevated upon its own pedestal in the center, pulses the core of a fantastic three-winged tree. Its massive planes emanate the feeling of live plasma through a powerful gradient — from a deep violet base, transitioning through intense warm orange-red, into exploding yellow tips.
Along the same longitudinal axis, elevated upon pristine white pedestals as monuments of purification, rest two next-generation chairs. Extricated from the chaos of gravity and textiles, they transform the horizontal plane of the pedestal into a screen for pure light. Their engineering rationality is tamed by pieces of cast blue and green glass, which refract the spotlights, projecting vivid, vibrant stained-glass reflections directly onto the white cubes.
These are not furniture pieces mimicking art. These are sculptures infused with function. These are objects created for living.
