Project Waiting for the 90s
The Art Gallery – Ruse has prepared a book album Touches from the History of the Art Gallery – Ruse. It is part of the project Waiting for the 90s and will be presented on May 4, one day before the official celebration of the 90th anniversary of the gallery. The book gives an introduction to the history of the institution. It begins with a review of facts about artists and exhibitions from the 1920s and 1930s. The text follows the chronological development of the gallery’s activity after the opening of the gallery and the exhibitions held in it. Major events that are important for the creation and essence of the collection are marked. Through the attached reproductions, the reader has the opportunity to get acquainted with a part of the fund, which illustrates the development of visual arts in Ruse, a kind of “archive” of regional and authors’ exhibitions, of the visiting Bulgarian and foreign authors. Archival documents complement the information, and the photographs allow us to immerse ourselves in the atmosphere of the past decades. The catalogue is in colour and bilingual. The authors of the texts are Elena Velikova and Maria Todorova.
Another project activity is the production of souvenirs with reproductions of famous works from the gallery’s collection. Selected works of Vladimir Dimitrov – Master, Boris Eliseev, Elena Karamihailova, Dimitar Radoikov, Atanas Mihov, Rusi Ganchev, Bencho Obreshkov, Yordan Parashkevov, Atanas Yaranov, Radi Nedelchev, Lyuben Gaidarov and others. The images can be seen on canvases, bags, notebooks, pencil cases, magnets and key chains. The items add to the pleasant memories of interacting with art and can be shared with family and friends. The souvenirs can be found and purchased in the gallery. They will also soon be available for viewing on the institution’s website in the Bookstore section.
The activities of the project Waiting for the 90s were carried out with the financial support of the Ministry of Culture and in cooperation with the Regional Library Lyuben Karavelov – Ruse and the State Archive – Ruse.
