BASEMENT GALLERY
In the Depths of the Artist’s Sub/Consciousness
Opening: 08.07.2025, 18:00
BASEMENT GALLERY is a new art space within the framework of the Contemporary Art Festival – Ruse 2025, implemented with the support of the Municipality of Ruse, “Culture” program. It is located in an unusual but highly impactful environment – in the underground premises of the Art Gallery – Ruse. From boiler rooms and service spaces, these premises are transformed into an artistic platform for contemporary visual art and experimentation with the senses.
The project is an initiative of artists Emma Yordanova and Martin Petrov (NAGONE) and aims to activate and redefine the industrial, raw atmosphere of the underground floor. BASEMENT GALLERY uses this unique context to recreate the metaphor for the “basement” of the sub/consciousness – the place where the artist stores memories, images, traumas, longings and inspirations. It is from there, from the inner darkness, that the light of art is born.
The space is intended not only for exhibition, but also for the creation of art – it provides an opportunity for the full artistic process: from concept to realization and dialogue with the audience. BASEMENT GALLERY will present painting, sculpture, video art, installations, murals, light and sound interventions, as well as interactive and tactile forms of art that engage the visitor on a deeper, sensory level.
