Presentation of the Photo Album “Black-and-White Moments: Visual Impressions of Memory” by Hachik Lebikyan

3 April 2026 at 6:00 PM

One year after the exhibition “Black-and-White Photographs from the Photo Archive of Hachik Lebikyan”, presented at the Art Gallery – Ruse, photographs from this rich archive find new life in the album “Black-and-White Moments: Visual Impressions of Memory.”

On 3 April 2026 at 6:00 PM, the Art Gallery – Ruse will host the presentation of the photo album by photographer Hachik Lebikyan.

The publication brings together decades of photographic work and a personal archive of images created during different periods of the author’s creative path. Many of the photographs have been preserved as negatives, which Lebikyan has scanned with the help of contemporary technology in order to include them in the album. For many years he worked with classical photographic equipment and developed his photographs himself, remaining faithful to the aesthetics of analog photography.

The album is structured in thematic sections that trace different spaces and moments of life—the city, the river, the faces of Ruse, cultural events, nature, and travels. Among them are also photographs connected with memorable events, such as the welcoming of the Bulgarian climbers who conquered Mount Everest in 1984, captured with the author’s distinctive sense of timing and unusual perspective.

The idea for the album emerged in conversations with Mladen Lyubenov, who is the artistic editor of the publication and proposed the concept for its structure. The work on its preparation led to the rediscovery of a rich photographic archive—hundreds of images arranged by the author into a coherent visual narrative.

Lebikyan’s photographs carry the spirit of classical black-and-white photography—attentive observation, a precise sense of the moment, and compositions in which the play of angle and perspective gives the images a sense of movement and inner dynamism.

The album will be presented by journalist Neli Piguleva.
