Georgi Georgiev – Jacko Sculpture
Sculptures Between the Poetry of Form and the Improvisation of Material
17 March – 14 April 2026
Opening: 17 March 2026, 6:00 PM
The Art Gallery – Ruse presents a sculpture exhibition by Georgi Georgiev – Jacko, one of the notable contemporary Bulgarian sculptors whose work combines expressive form, philosophical symbolism, and poetic imagination.
Born in Ruse in 1974, Georgiev studied woodcarving in Teteven before continuing his education in sculpture at Veliko Tarnovo University under Prof. Velichko Minekov and later at the National Academy of Art in Sofia in the class of Prof. Emil Popov. Over the years he has developed a distinctive sculptural language in which movement, lightness, and symbolism shape figures that seem to belong to an imaginary world, balancing between reality and poetry.
A significant part of his monumental works has been realized through international sculpture symposia and projects, particularly in China, where more than ten of his large-scale compositions are installed in sculpture parks and public spaces. His works are also part of international collections, including a museum dedicated to wood in Denmark.
In the present exhibition, the artist introduces a series of sculptures created through an experimental approach. Some of the works originate from industrial cast-iron fragments—so-called “accidental forms” to which the artist gives a new life by transforming them into sculptural compositions later cast in bronze.
Described by Radio Free Europe as a “jazz musician in sculpture,” Jacko works with spontaneity and a spirit of improvisation. In his sculptures, the angelic and the demonic, the divine and the human, lightness and weight, movement and stillness coexist, while his abstract visual language invites viewers to discover their own meanings and interpretations.
The exhibition reveals the artist’s unique vision, where precision and plastic lightness transform metal into poetic form.
