Plamen Ovcharov – Painting

8–31 January 2026
Opening: 8 January 2026, 6:00 pm

The Art Gallery – Ruse presents a painting exhibition by Plamen Ovcharov, featuring portraits executed in oil paints. In the exhibition, the artist creates images inspired by Neoclassicism, Secession, Art Nouveau, and Realism, bringing to life figures that carry the spirit and aesthetics of Europe’s past.

The paintings combine classical painterly tradition with a more contemporary visual interpretation. The artist works with subtle psychological depth and close attention to detail, creating a recognizable artistic language with a clear emotional impact. The works include both individual portraits and compositions in which themes of closeness and the connection between generations take center stage.

“In my works, I combine classical elements with modern approaches in order to create a visual language that provokes reflection and emotion in the viewer,” Plamen Ovcharov shares.

In an interview for the Bulgarian News Agency (BTA), the artist emphasizes that the female figure is a key source of inspiration in his work, perceived as a symbol of tenderness, growth, vitality, and spiritual strength.

Plamen Ovcharov was born on 11 November 1998 in Ruse. His art is strongly influenced by the city’s architectural heritage, renowned for its Secession buildings— the result of the impact of Austrian architects, sculptors, and designers following Bulgaria’s Liberation.

He completed a Bachelor’s degree in Painting at the Faculty of Fine Arts of Veliko Tarnovo University in 2021, and in 2025 earned a Master’s degree in Painting from the National Academy of Art in Sofia. In his practice, the artist seeks new artistic paths that bring energy and meaning to the contemporary visual context.

Plamen Ovcharov has participated in and received awards at numerous competitions and exhibitions in Bulgaria, as well as in the USA, England, Denmark, France, and Spain.
