Vasilka Moneva. Painting
April 22 – May 16, 2025
Opening: April 22, 2025, 6:00 p.m.
Recognized as one of the great ladies of the Ruse School of Painting, Vasilka Moneva describes herself with poetic simplicity: “My life is windmills.” Her art, according to critics, covers a vivid spectrum – from lyrical abstraction to bold expressions reminiscent of Fauvism.
Having developed her skills as an artist entirely on her own, Moneva never studied with a mentor, nor did she apply to the Academy of Arts. Her works invariably captivate collectors, who are attracted by her instinctive creativity and unmistakable style. Restless and imaginative, she is an author in constant search – always exploring, always experimenting.
Her canvases breathe life, whether they depict interiors, exteriors or landscapes. Everyday objects, flowers and human figures emerge from her compositions, imbued with emotion and movement, arranged in imaginative theatrical scenes.
In honor of her jubilee, the Art Gallery – Ruse presents an exhibition featuring a selection of her most iconic works from its collection – each a testament to her unique vision and lasting influence on the contemporary art scene.
