May 17 - July 2, 2025
On May 17, 2025, within the framework of the European Night of Museums, the Art Gallery - Ruse presented the exhibition "Ruse - Urban Dreams and Dreams", part of the project "Ruse - Past and Future, Urban "Dreams" and "Dreams", implemented with the financial support of the Ministry of Culture.
The exhibition presents the results of a one-month international creative residency, in which five contemporary visual artists from the Balkans participated:
Lachezar Boyadzhiev (Bulgaria) – curator and participant
Ina Valentinova (Bulgaria)
Olivia Mihalteanu (Romania)
Fatmir Mustafa (Kosovo)
Gjorge Jovanovic (North Macedonia)
The works created during the residency present different artistic interpretations of Ruse – as a city of the past, the present and the imagined future. They combine personal and collective narratives, visual references to urban architecture, social processes and imagined possible worlds. Each work is an invitation to the viewer to see the city through someone else’s eyes – as a dream, as a vision, as a feeling.
“Ruse – Urban Dreams and Dreams” is both an exhibition and a spatial narrative – about the memory of the place, about its current transformations and about what the city could be. It intertwines reality and imagination, social commentary and personal emotion, cultural memory and artistic search.
The exhibition can be viewed in the gallery halls until the end of June 2025.
