Khan Kubrat Square, “The Boy with the Violin” Fountain

“Energy Box” is a site-specific installation in the public space of Ruse that visualizes the pulse of the contemporary city and the energy of young people. Located in an area of everyday encounters and social activity, it naturally becomes a place for gathering, communication, and shared experiences — an urban point where art and life overlap.

The project creates a dialogue between different generations and cultural layers of the city. On one side stands the sculptural approach of Anton Tsanev, connected to materiality and the memory of the urban environment. On the other is the voice and rhythm of the contemporary street, represented by Momchil Varbanov (Momcheto), as an expression of today’s youth culture and its dynamic language.

Formally, the installation takes the shape of a geometric volume — a “box” that functions as a symbol of concentrated urban energy. Its visual structure intertwines motifs inspired by early 20th-century architecture in Ruse — ornaments and silhouettes referencing the façade culture of the old city, reinterpreted through contemporary materials such as metal, semi-transparent panels, and light systems.

In counterpoint to these historical references, contemporary visual codes are introduced — graphic interventions, dynamic typography, and light impulses that respond to movement and sound. In this way, the “box” becomes a living body that changes according to the presence of people around it — a structure that “breathes” with the urban environment.

“Energy Box” also functions as a social catalyst — a place that is not only observed, but used, inhabited, and shared. As a visually recognizable object within the urban fabric, it naturally aligns with the way young people communicate today — through images, movement, and digital sharing.

The project emphasizes the coexistence of historical memory and contemporary urban culture, presenting Ruse as a space of continuous transformation and shared energy.
