One of the Most Significant Collections of the Ruse Art Gallery Goes on Tour
Ruse Art Gallery Receives Funding from the Ministry of Culture for the Project “Ruse School of Painting”
Ruse Art Gallery has been selected for funding under the Ministry of Culture’s programme “Creation of Temporary Exhibitions of Movable Cultural Property from the Collections of Museums and Art Galleries.” The Gallery has been awarded €28,285.54 (BGN 55,321.70) for the implementation of the project “Ruse School of Painting.”
The project highlights one of the most valuable collections preserved by Ruse Art Gallery. It brings together works by the artists who shaped the Ruse School of Painting—one of the most significant regional artistic movements in Bulgaria during the second half of the twentieth century. Distinguished by its artistic quality, thematic richness and historical importance, this collection represents an essential part of Bulgaria’s cultural heritage and the development of modern Bulgarian art.
As part of the project, a travelling exhibition featuring 69 works from the Gallery’s collection will tour several cities across Bulgaria. The project also includes conservation and restoration work, the publication of a bilingual scholarly catalogue, the development of educational resources for different age groups, and the creation of interactive and accessible materials for visitors with visual and hearing impairments.
Through this initiative, an important part of Ruse’s artistic heritage will reach new audiences beyond the city. The project not only promotes outstanding works from the Gallery’s collection but also establishes a sustainable model for presenting cultural heritage by combining the museum’s educational, cultural and social missions.
The implementation of the “Ruse School of Painting” project marks an important step towards presenting one of the most valuable collections held by a regional art museum in Bulgaria to a nationwide audience, while further strengthening its place in the history of Bulgarian art.
