Opening of the Festival of Contemporary Art – Ruse 2026
Ruse launches a month-long international programme of contemporary art in the urban environment
On 16 May 2026, the Festival of Contemporary Art opens in Ruse – an initiative by Ruse Art Gallery that will transform the city into an active stage for contemporary artistic production.
The opening programme begins at 16:00 at Ruse Art Gallery and continues from 17:00 to 21:00 across several key locations in the city – Blok 14, Ecomuseum with Aquarium, Casa Canetti and the Naval Tower. Audiences will be free to move between the venues and experience the festival as a dynamic urban map of contemporary art.
From 16 May to 15 June 2026, Ruse and the surrounding region become an expanded exhibition platform, where galleries, museums, industrial and public spaces are activated as stages for exhibitions, performances, video art and new media. The festival presents a selection of 68 projects from 17 countries, chosen through an international open call.
The theme of this edition – Space – explores how environment is experienced and transformed through contemporary art, with all works created in dialogue with specific locations.
