Erasmus+ at the Art Gallery – Ruse

International Interns from Spain, Greece, Turkey and Switzerland Working on Educational and Audio-Visual Projects

At the end of 2025, the Art Gallery – Ruse began work under the European Erasmus+ programme, focused on educational exchange, professional development, and international cooperation in the field of culture and the arts. In doing so, the gallery joined the cultural institutions in Bulgaria that actively develop international internship programmes, providing students from various European countries with practical experience in a real museum and gallery environment.

After receiving numerous applications and conducting interviews, six interns from Spain, Turkey, and Greece were selected, along with one online intern from Switzerland. Their three-month internship combines work on specific projects related to art accessibility, educational programmes, and communication with diverse audiences.

Audio-Visual Guide for Accessible Art

Ana Rodríguez, Ane Muñoz, and Javier López – students in “Production of Audiovisual Projects and Performances” at Instituto Albaida in Almería (Spain) – are working on the creation of an audio-visual guide for visually impaired and deaf visitors for the gallery’s exhibition “The Ruse Painting School.”

The project aims to make the works in the exhibition more accessible to people with different needs through sound, text, and visual elements, creating a new way to experience and understand art.

Education Through Art

Paraskevi Dimitropoulou from the Hellenic Open University in Athens is developing an educational and interactive programme for children, inspired by the gallery’s current exhibitions.

The programme will include a series of weekly activities in which children will explore artworks through observation, discussion, and creative tasks. The goal is to introduce young audiences to art in a natural and engaging way – through participation, interpretation, and personal creative expression.

In addition, the intern is contributing to the development of educational materials for the exhibition “The Ruse Painting School,” as well as preparing presentations to introduce the gallery in schools in Ruse.

Video Content and Exhibition Texts

Carla Suárez, a student of Audiovisual and Show Production at the César Manrique Institute in Tenerife (Spain), is working on the creation of video materials for the gallery’s exhibitions, as well as preparing and translating texts needed for the development of the audio guide.

Rabia Gültaş from Balıkesir University (Turkey), majoring in Graphic Arts, is preparing short texts about artists and artworks from the Ruse Painting School for the audio guide and educational materials. Part of her work also includes developing ideas for short educational videos presenting artists and works from the collection.

International Communication

The gallery’s team is also joined by online intern Elisaveta Bezzub from the University of Neuchâtel (Switzerland), who studies Art History and Communication. She is working on a concept and communication strategy for the gallery’s international initiatives and on promoting future international open calls and events.

Exchange of Ideas and Experience

The Erasmus+ internship programme creates an opportunity for a genuine exchange of ideas, experience, and cultural perspectives.

For the students, it is a chance to gain close insight into the work of an art gallery and to participate in real projects – from developing educational programmes to creating new formats for presenting art.

For the gallery, international cooperation brings new perspectives and fresh ideas that support the development of more accessible, educational, and digital forms of audience engagement.
