VOX POPULI VOX DEI – Short Film Screening in Ruse

Ruse Art Gallery

“Vox pópuli vox Déi” (“The voice of the people is the voice of God”) – the famous Latin saying that stands at the core of this striking new short film program by Kinematograf – will come to life on November 13 at the Ruse Art Gallery.

The screening brings together short films from Bulgaria, Lebanon, the USA, and Canada – a vibrant selection interwoven with opinions, gossip, democracy, absurd twists, and satire. The program invites us to reflect: where does genius end and foolishness begin – and is the people’s voice truly the wisest of all?

Highlights of the program:
  • “Vox Populi” by Tanita Gancheva – a story about Magdalena, a provincial actress who takes care of her ailing father-in-law in a village quarantined due to a swine fever outbreak. Caught between the tragic and the absurd, she tries to save her pig.

  • “Technical Inspection” by Zlatelina Tsokova – an animated film that turns an episode of anxiety into an apocalyptic train ride.

  • “Meat” by Sofia Stoycheva – a cult short film from 2010 featuring Latinka Petrova, Vlado Karamazov, Irmena Chichikova, and Uti Bachvarov. The screening celebrates Stoycheva’s recent success with her debut feature film “The Uneven Soul,” selected for the Rhodope Film Festival and Golden Rhyton.

The screening is organized by Kinematograf in partnership with the Ruse Art Gallery.
Join us for an evening where humor, absurdity, and human stories meet on the big screen.
