The Art Gallery’s project entitled “Ruse – Past and Future, Urban Dreams and Desires” has been ranked 20th and has received full funding. It will be realized in the period March – July 2025. In its rationale, the commission underscores the unconventional approach, which culmination is the synthesis between artistic and cultural elements. It is also emphasized the intention of the project to foster a professional discourse through the creation of conceptual works.
The project’s primary focus is on the city as a multifaceted phenomenon, encompassing a diverse array of elements such as architecture, history, culture, ideas, personalities, and social interactions, and as a dynamic space where encounters and conflicts, innovations and traditions, and a rich tapestry of communities converge. The objective is to examine the various urban psychological and social structures and their impact on the individual.
Five contemporary artists – Lachezar Boyadjiev and Ina Valentinova (Bulgaria), Olivia Michaltianu (Romania), Blerta Haziraj (Kosovo), George Jovanovic (North Macedonia) were invited for this study in a creative residency. The author’s concepts will be visible in their newly created visual works.
“Ruse – Past and Future, Urban “Dreams” and “Desires” also addresses the individual resident of the city. 30 participants from the city of Ruse will share their “view”, “dream” or “desire” in a workshop organized within the project.
The project aims to present art in a modern and attractive way by combining different types of art and methods in order to engage the public. The program and its implementation seek to further develop the work of the Art Gallery – Ruse in a manner that expands the cultural horizons of participants and audiences, while ensuring accessibility and equal opportunities for the consumption of cultural products for all age and social groups in society.
