The Art to being a Curator
At the beginning of February, an educational program The Art of Being a Curator was launched within the framework of the Waiting for the 90s project of the Art Gallery – Ruse.
With the graduates of ELS Geo Milev – Ruse and with the assistance of their drawing teacher Mrs Aneta Maneva, classes are held every week, with the ultimate goal being an exhibition included in the program to celebrate the gallery’s 90th anniversary.
After getting acquainted with the works from the gallery fund, the participants chose the theme for the future exhibition – The Beauty of the Native. The next stage in the work process was the selection of specific works. The selection included works from the 1930s-1980s of the 20 century. Among the selected authors are Daria Vasilianska, Ivan Getsov, Dimitar Gyudzhenov, Zlatyu Boyadzhiev, Boris Denev, Simeon Gloginkov, Stoyan Venev, Radi Nedelchev, Boris Vasilev, and others. The preliminary arrangement of the works in the gallery space was done on an online platform for virtual exhibitions. The website of the exhibition is also launched.
At the present moment, final work is being done in several directions – preparation of texts specific to an exhibition – concept, advertising and informational materials and the creation of souvenirs for it.
For the gallery team, the implementation of this educational program is a pleasant challenge. Working with students from Geo Milev school is mutually enriching. In the course of our joint activity, they surprise us with non-standard solutions, intelligent judgments and asserting their own opinions. Mrs Aneta Maneva also plays an important role in the implementation of this project. With her teaching experience, she knows how to inspire her students and stimulate their self-initiative.
The exhibition “Beauty of the Native will be opened on May 5, the day of the official anniversary celebration of the Ruse Art Gallery.
The project “Looking forward to the 90s” was implemented with the financial support of the Ministry of Culture, and won at a competition session on topic 2: Activities for the presentation of movable cultural heritage in museums and art galleries.
